Si Psalm Deniel Aquino, na isang manlalangoy sa ACT, ay hinandugan ng full scholarship ng paaralan para sa pag-aaral niya sa hayskul.

                 Isa talaga itong karangalan sapagkat siya ay ang kauna-unahang mag-aaral na nakatanggap ng ganitong alok.

                 Ayon sa isang panayam kay Bb. Floramae Arain, nabanggit niya na isa sa mga rason kung bakit naisipang gawaran si Aquino ng scholarship ay dahil sa kanyang mga nakamit sa larangan ng paglangoy.

               Hindi lang siya kilala sa buong ACT o sa probinsiya ng Cebu kundi tanyag din siya sa buong Pilipinas maging sa mundo.                             
               Kabilang siya sa listahan ng mga magagaling na manglalangoy sa buong mundo.

              Ngayon, si Aquino ay nasa Aklan para sa isang kompetisyon at umaasang maiuwi ang tropeyo dito sa Cebu.

Arieta, Rivilla take home Kallistione crown-------- Maria Eloisa Garcia

Adrian Arieta and Paula Rivilla won Mr. and Ms. Kallistione last September 8, 2014.

                 Alexander the Great claimed the Best Costume and Best in Costume for the male category. “Adrian was definitely fit for the role. His costume was also well-made,” Lallene Cinco, his classmate commented.

                 Rivilla, on the other hand, entered the spotlight with poise and fearlessness. “A fierce persona, an eventual queen,” Rene Sebes, a Grade 9 student, said referring to Rivilla.

Queen Boadicea’s production number sent the audience tailed to every piece of action, justifying her role as a warrior queen. The latter received the Best in Production Number and the Best Performer for the female category.

Posing as two of the most popular history figures, Arieta as Alexander the Great, and Rivilla as Queen Boadicea, carried out their respective roles for the said competition.

Both were from the juniors, who made a splash as they were proclaimed victors of the night.

“They retained their composures and their strong, dominating auras throughout the whole program.”, Sir Rommel Alvarez, faculty, commented.

  “Wonderful performance, greatly modified by her tiger-like screams,” Christian Alferez, a sophomore, said.

Juniors also won second runner-up for male and female, with Chauntel Gimenez as Queen Elizabeth and Lance Catadman as Charlemagne.

The seniors proved that they never leave without putting up a fight. Noreen Sumalinog as Nzinga Mbande and Ryan Musa as Julius Caesar were proclaimed the third runner-ups of the competition.

The Kallistione: The Gods Who Shaped History was the first competition in ACT which featured the most important figures of the earliest civilizations of the world, portrayed by selected high school representatives.

Not only that, the competition was educational. “The activity was really great. It was something to enjoy and something to learn as well. We as audience learned names and lives of prominent personas in history.” Ms. Monette Binagatan, School nurse, commented.

Binagatan also said that whatever the contestants did on stage for sure would never be forgotten.

Genayas wins photo with Mario Maurer ------- Johanna Zapanta

Duane Genayas, Grade-10 student, was photographed with Thai celebrities, Mario Maurer and Baifern Pimchanock during the Penshoppe fancon last August 31, 2014 at the Ayala Terraces, Cebu.

                 Genayas joined the games during the said event. In return, he got to meet Maurer and Pimchanok up close. “Mario and Baifern were so sport.”, Genayas commented.

                 During the event he was  full of confidence that the crowd became wild when he posed as a catwalk model wannabee. “It was quite embarrassing (if it had to be me doing what he did) but I’m really proud of him.” Kimberly  Abellanosa said.

“That  was the best day ever!” Genayas said seemingly reminiscing. He said that opportunities like that can only happen once, so why not grab it.”

       Genayas, together with his friends Abellanosa and Noreen Sumalinog won free VIP tickets to watch Penshoppes’s fancon featuring Maurer and Pimchanok.

           “If it wasn’t  for Kim. I wouldn’t have known about the contest in twitter. I thank her for that,” Genayas said.

              The event ended at around 6 pm.

DOH warns against Ebola outbreak-----Maria Eloisa Garcia

          Department of Health Secretary, Enrique Ona warned that Ebola can reach the

country.       

                  Philippines was urged to prepare for the rising Ebola outbreak .

                  We bers of Ebola victims have sought can’t afford to be complacent about Ebola. The government has put enough resources to deal with this public health threat,” Ona said.

                  Philippine embassies are directed to constantly monitor the health of Filipinos abroad before they return home.

                “It’s just a matter of time that it reaches us given air travel and the fact that we have overseas workers-it’s going to come,” warned Dr. Manuel Dayit former DOH secretary.

                    According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Ebola is not just a health crisis but a complex emergency. This is the worst outbreak in history but this is controllable and preventable.

The latest count on Ebola reached 8,399 and the total deaths reached 4,033.

Aumentado crowned Ms. Nutrition 2014-------Maria Eloisa Garcia

Dacel Leah L. Aumentado, Gr.-10 Perseverance, won the title of the first Talisay City Ms. Nutrition last August 29, 2014.

                  Aumentado, who also received the following minor awards: Ms. Save and Smile, Texters’ Choice, Best in Funwear and Best in Talent, won amongst 14 girls.

                  She answered her question confidently, “I shall propose a bill stating that junk foods shall not be allowed in schools. For schools which will not follow shall be liable for complaints of kidney related  diseases. This is to ensure that generation Z, our generation is a healthy generation.”

The crowd went from wild to quiet when she started  to answer then the crowd went wild again after her answer.

                  She said she was nervous but it didn't stop her from pulling off her walk, fun wear, evening gown and most of all her talent and answers.

She, together with Mr. Rommel Alvarez, PE Instructor and talent coach, presented a contemporary dance which was greatly applauded. Aumentado said that one of the coaches of her fellow contenders said, “That’s talent.” “The coaches even started asking my name and from what school I’m from.” she added.

                Alvarez said that she is very much trainable. He also explained that Aumentado’s flexibility and determination are plus factors.

The dance was about a physically abused woman who amidst the beating and insult still went on to love the same man.

         During the casual interview, Aumentado was asked what a picture is since she is a photojournalist. She said (in summary) a picture tells different stories. She also concluded, “This is why they say a picture paints a thousand words.” A loud applause was heard after that.

             Aumentado worked hard during her trainings be it the talent, walk, or the question and answer. “The good thing about Dacel is, she has a goal and she stays in that road focused.” Mrs. Jeanille Cogtas, Adviser and Public Speaking coach, commented.

             The Asianistas, composed of High School students together with some of the High School Faculty and Dr. Francisca T. Kilag (ACT-ISD Principal) stayed on until the end of the competition.

It was a night of the Asianistas as most schools observably have only few supporters left based on the noise they make when the contestants name was called.

               Dr. Kilag expressed how happy  and    proud  she was of      Aumentado during her speeches in school programs. She was also thankful for the support of the students and the faculty (Ms. Floramae Arain, Sir Rommel Alvarez, Ms. Jacqueline Sampaga, Ms. Jeanille B. Cogtas, and Ms. Sheila Ramirez) for being there to support that night.

              Aumentado studied dancing with Sir Rommel Alvarez Summer Class of 2014 at ACT-ISD.

ASIANISTA MUSES COME HOME VICTORIOUS---- Archielfaye Mori

                 ACT-ISD won in the Muse competition for Talisay City District Meet last Thursday, September 5, 2013.

                 Pia Cabataña, contestant number two won Miss District Meet 2013 for the Elementary level while Natassha Gail Reyes, High School candidate number three, won 1st Runner-up garnering an average score of 91%.

                 The crowd cheered as Cabataña finished her speech saying, “The miracle isn’t in the finish line, the miracle is that I have the courage to start.” In an interview she said that she is so happy being the champion.             

               Reyes on the other hand was well-applauded right when she started walking then she took a pose and said, “Winners don’t wait for chances, they take them.”

               Lance Roi Catadman, ACT ON LINE sports writer commented that Reyes has charisma and this distinctive smile that separates her apart from the rest.

          The competition started with the dance of all muses. Then their most awaited walk and introduction started from the elementary level then to the High School.

              After the competition was the raising of school banners. Cabataña and Psalm Aquino, ACT-ISD Swim team athlete, paired for the elementary while Reyes was escorted by Hussien Carlmart Tienzo, ACT-ISD Taekwondo delegate. “I’m nervous because it was unexpected. I didn’t even know it was a race.” he said laughing.

COGTAS, ALORO AWARDED AT 10 ------Visiree Genayas

        Mrs. Jeanille B. Cogtas, High School Teacher, and Mrs. Merlisa A. Aloro, Kindergarten Teacher, received service awards during the Silveration Ball held at the Waterfront Hotel last September 13, 2013.

        They both served ACT for 10 years now. They started working in ACT during the summer of 2003.

        It is customary for ACT to award employees who worked for 10,15, 20, and 25.

         Cogtas stated that she has no plans of transferring to other schools. “ I am attached to ACT though many people discouraged me to stay because according to them I have no future here. But I thought my future is in my hands.            

        No one can tell me where my future is. I make my own future and I say its here.” she said.

        She also mentioned that she doesn’t see herself outside ACT because she learned to grow roots here and that root has been deeply set. “ A person who does not grow roots does not belong to anything.” she added.

        Cogtas confessed that she has discovered herself more when assigned to High School. “I have learned to smile, have fun with the students. I enjoyed my job.”

        Aloro on the other hand has professionally grown into a sought after preschool teacher then Grade two then back to preschool.

        Archielfaye Brigitte Mori, Gr. 10-Fortitude, said that she is proud of Teacher Merl and that she was her favorite teacher when she was Grade two.

        Saaya Watabe, Gr. 10 Fortitude, said, “She’s the type of teacher who always shows appreciation to her students and to other co-teachers.”

        Cogtas and Aloro were classmates in college taking up Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English. They were from Cebu Normal University.

The High school teachers (yellow team) braced themselves for the puzzle challenge. They need to complete the puzzle in one minute. The High School teachers emerged victorious over the red and the blue teams.

                  Students from different levels gathered in the main lobby to witness a short program for the celebration of Teachers’ Day last October 4, 2013.

                  The program started around 1 o’clock with a doxology performed by Grade eight students. Jordane Climaco and Dominic Ceballos sang Sunday Morning by Maroon 5.

                  The program was highlighted by a game in which the teachers were the participants. It was hosted by Juvanil Alvarado and Patricia Logarta from the Grade 8. The said game was based from the popular television game show, Minute to Win It of ABS-CBN.

After the second game a speech of gratitude was delivered by the PTA President Mrs. Faye Mutya, followed by the giving of gifts from the parents to the teachers and a short message from the school principal, Dr. Francisca T. Kilag.

The game continued with Round two and later the championships. The teachers were grouped into colors. Teachers from the preschool, grades 1, 2 and 3 formed the Red Team, mentors from grades 4, 5 and 6 represented the Blue Team and the Yellow Team was composed by the teachers from the high school department. Students cheered and shouted for their teachers.

Mr. Kyle Brent Largo won the "rage the cups with the balloon" challenge over Sir Rommel Alvarez of the blue team.

On that same day, ACT-ISD’s beloved principal Dr. Francisca T. Kilag celebrated her 2^nd birthday with ACT students and teachers. It was also the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi.

October 5 is the worldwide celebration of honoring the teachers.

SOPHIES CROWNED MR. & MS. INTRAMURALS 2015

              Francis Laboga and Jennifer Lavandero, Sophomores, won Mr. and Ms. Intramurals for Category D (High School).

              The judges all agreed that Lavandero’s unfading smile and confidence made her Ms. Intramurals.

              On the other hand,  Laboga’s portrayal of his sport, surfing, and consistency of his character crowned the latter Mr. Intramurals.

Geneses Capoyan , judge, explained that Laboga’s choice of the sport to showcase is a wise one.

He said that he has not yet seen anyone pull off the surfing get up in an escort competition for intramurals other than Laboga.

The judges said that the candidates surely have potential.

Capoyan particularly said that Jake Oyales, freshman has the greater potential among the other three contenders.

Oyales ranked first in Margelei Olayvar’s score sheet while Thea Nillas and  Capoyan’s rank one was Laboga.

Nillas pointed out that Leandra Lopez, Junior, carried herself pretty well. “She knows how to project but she needs to be a bit more consistent.”, she added.

The judges unanimously ranked Lopez second.

The judges also noticed Claire Solon, Senior. They said that she has the most beautiful face among the candidates.

HOUSTON BAGS 2ND RUNNER-UP - Charenz Mae Paires

     Anne Marie Houston, IV-Perseverance, won 2nd Runner-up for Miss Teen Talisay City 2012  held at Talisay City Sports Complex last October 15, 2012.

     Houston nailed the question and answer portion. “I have no problems answering the questions it’s just that I have to think of ways to make my answer like how they should be answered in beauty pageants.” she said.

     Mrs. Jeanille Cogtas, English Teacher, said the Preliminary question and answer was really heart wracking. “I was praying she wouldn’t pick the question she really disliked the most, she did anyway.” Mrs. Cogtas explained.

     The contestants were given 20 questions the day before the competition. During the pageant, the contestants picked one out of those questions. This is Houston’s question: If you were Mother Earth, how would you address your inhabitants?

     Houston said that she would tell the citizens of the world that she is aching of their neglect and abuse inspite the provisions she has given to them. She also added that people should learn to take care of her not only for their sakes but for their children and their children’s children.

     The crowd was so quiet as each paid attention to Houston’s answer and then roared as soon as she finished. When she reached top 5, the roaring even grew louder.

     Houston faced the final question which was: Talisay City is a finalist of the Most Child-friendly City in the Philippines, as a student what project would you make to make Talisay the Most Child-friendly City in the Philippines?

     She started with a smile and said, “As a student I would help the street children then I could make those children happy because a happy place is a beautiful place to live.” and an even louder roar was heard.

     One of the judges said Anne could have won if she had expounded her answer. He also said that Anne is charming and beautiful.

     Fourteen ladies from different schools in Talisay participated in this annual beauty pageant in lieu of the Talisay City Annual Fiesta.

     The program was hosted by Vince Escario. A dance number was presented by the UC Dance Company depicting the four elements. The contestants wore eco gowns for environmental friendliness as their theme followed by their introduction.

        Another dance number was presented by a duo who performed a dance sport. A VTR was shown during the visiting of the contestants to the  schools and important establishments of Talisay City.

       They ramped once again wearing their playsuits and evening gowns followed by the Question and Answer Portion.

      Special Awards were given to the following contestants:

· Ms. Friendship: Vanessa Kaye Parame (Monterey School Inc.)

· Ms. Photogenic: French Jean Aquillos (Cansojong Technical Vocational School)

· Best in Production Costume: Lestigan Degamo (Lawaan III National High School)

· Best in Playsuits and Best in Evening gown: Lloren Obejero (Cebu Sacred Heart College)

     Vanessa Kaye Parame from Monterey School Inc. won the title as Miss Teen Talisay 2012. Prior to this she already won as muse for the district meet held at Tabunok Central School.

        Aya Narvios Alisaca won third runner-up in the Miss Teen Talisay 2011 pageant held at the Talisay City Sports Complex last October 14, 2011.

   The theme of the pageant was “around the world.” The candidates were wearing the national costumes of the world in which Aya Narvios represented Mexico.

    The question and answer portion was talk show inspired. The host as well as the candidates sat on the couch. Aya Narvios impressed the host, judges and the entire audience with her answer during the Q and A portion. The question for Miss ACT was, “What characteristic of a Talisaynon would give him an edge in the global arena?”

    “Self orientation because with this, the Talisaynons know how to express themselves in their maximum level. And another thing, the Talisaynons are devoted to Sta. Theresa. Their  faith strengthens them.” she said.

          In an interview with ACT On line she was asked how she felt as she received her title. She then said: “God never failed to guide me all throughout the contest. My family, my friends, especially the MFs, my teachers were always there to support me. I’m really glad because somehow I made my school proud. And one thing I learned most is "Trust Yourself" for you are your own best friend. Be optimistic and always put God First.” she confidently said.

         Ms. Cherubs academy (Nicole Espinas) was crowned Miss Teen Talisay 2011, Friday night.     Miss Cebu Sacred Heart College was first runner-up, Miss Lawaan National High School placed second runner-up, ACT third runner-up and Miss Talisay City National High School was 4^th runner up.

          Meanwhile, the appearance of Miss Lawaan National High school wowed the audience as she goes home not only with the title, 2^nd runner-up but also Miss Photogenic, best in play suit, and best in costume. Miss Talisay City National High School won Miss Talent and Best in Production Number. Ms Cherubs Academy received Miss Friendship as voted by the contestants.
